Growth hormone (GH) is a peptide (synthesized in cells from amino acids) hormone that activates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regeneration in both men and women. Growth hormone contains 191 amino acids and is created, stored, and released by the pituitary gland in the brain.

GH production is activated by GHRH (growth hormone releasing hormone). GH journeys to the liver where it increases IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor). IGF-1 is a potent active metabolite of growth hormone and helps with repair in the body. IGF-1 is very important for workout recovery and thriving. In addition, IGF-1 promotes growth, repair, and cell proliferation. Both GH and IGF-1 are primarily anabolic hormones that help the body use protein to rebuild and repair.
